THE INVENTORY LOG · PRICING
Which asset inventory vendors publish a price?
SHORT ANSWER
Of the 10 platforms on this site and the 3 systems they work alongside, four publish a list price or starting rate on the pages we read (Axonius, JupiterOne, Lansweeper and runZero), seven publish a pricing basis, an adjacent price, a marketplace price or a free account (Armis, Censys, Device42, Freshservice, Microsoft, Rapid7 and Tenable), and two quote only through sales (Qualys and ServiceNow). A published price is useful for budgeting; it is not a measure of value.

Why does a published price matter?
Because it lets you check fit and budget before a sales cycle. It also tells you the unit a vendor prices on, which is the number that will drive your bill as the estate grows. A published price is not a sign of a better product, and a quote-only vendor is not hiding anything unusual: most enterprise software in this category is sold through sales.
The groups below are computed on the site from each vendor's price check; this post describes them as they stood after our reads of 27 September and 11 October 2026. Prices from AWS Marketplace listings are list prices for the contract shown there; private offers may differ.
Who publishes a number?
- Axonius publishes device-based pricing on unique, correlated devices, with tiers from under 500 devices to 10M+ and volume discounts in every tier. Its pricing page shows a starting rate of $8.55 per asset for 15,000 to 24,999 assets; the billing period was not stated in what we read. A device seen by five tools counts once. Its AWS Marketplace listing prices 500 assets at $90,625 for a 12-month contract. No free tier or trial is listed.
- JupiterOne publishes annual tiers: Small-Market at $25,000 a year, Mid-Market at $50,000 for 12 months up to 200,000 data points, Enterprise at $100,000 for 12 months up to 400,000 data points, and custom above 1 million data points. The unit is data points, plus term. No free tier or trial is mentioned.
- runZero publishes a free Community Edition for 100 or fewer assets with 30-day retention, and a Platform plan that starts at $5,000 with 3-year retention, plus a free 21-day trial.
- Lansweeper publishes Starter from €270 a month (2,000 assets, one installation) and Pro from €474 a month (2,000 assets expandable to 9,000, up to three installations), both billed annually, plus a 14-day trial and a free tier up to 100 assets. Enterprise starts at 10,000 assets on request. The prices were shown to us in euros and may vary by location.
Who publishes a basis, an adjacent price, a marketplace price or a free account?
- Microsoft Defender EASM defines billable assets (approved host:IP combinations, domains and IP addresses), offers a 30-day free trial and bills through Azure. Its pricing page showed no rate when we read it.
- Censys sells ASM through sales, but offers a free platform account with credits from $100.
- Device42 publishes its model, an annual subscription based on the number of devices, without amounts, and offers a free trial download.
- Armis shows no price on armis.com; its AWS Marketplace listing sets a Centrix Standard minimum of $3,250 a month on a one-month contract, with private offers.
- Freshservice publishes service desk prices of $19, $49 and $99 per agent a month, billed annually, with a 14-day trial; its asset management is licensed by Asset Units in packs of 500, whose price is not shown.
- Rapid7 publishes no amounts but says Surface Command is priced on the asset types and use cases in scope, and offers a trial.
- Tenable does not sell Attack Surface Management online, but publishes adjacent prices, such as Tenable One Vulnerability Management at $3,700 for one year for up to 250 assets.
Who quotes only through sales?
Qualys and ServiceNow publish no price on the pages we read. Qualys offers a free trial of CSAM. ServiceNow publishes no prices for ITSM, Discovery or Software Asset Management.
What should you ask a quote-only vendor?
- What unit is the price based on: assets, devices, users, data points or connectors?
- What counts as one unit when the same laptop appears in five tools?
- What happens to the price when the estate grows by a quarter, or when you add a new source?
- Which features sit in higher tiers? Rapid7, for example, puts vulnerability scanning in the Exposure Command tiers above Surface Command.
- Is there a trial, and can it run on your own data?
How does the finder use price?
Only when you say one team runs IT and security assets. Then it adds two checks, price and trial, because small teams often need to budget before a sales call. A vendor with a published price matches; a vendor with a basis or free account partly matches; a quote-only vendor counts zero, which is not a penalty. For other answers, price does not affect the order. That is deliberate: a large estate with many owners is usually buying through procurement anyway, and a published list price says little about what a negotiated enterprise contract will cost. The rule is on How matching works.
